we are splitting (tw mental illness)
If anyone is familiar with bpd language it might make sense to you
But we’re doing it with several people
FYI friends who have been posting grrrlVIRUS stuff..
i unfollowed their tumblr because it is just the whitest. thing. ever.
i cannot identify with all this skinny white suburban dyed hair pierced bikini kill angsty riot grrl crap, and even the word ‘grrl’ makes me feel a bit sick. gross.
Yeah, I love riot grrrl as a point of historical interest, and I really love Bikini Kill et al as artists, I also think that the METHODS of the ORIGINAL movement are a good way to get people united and talking over a cause. However, GrrrlVirus and the Riot Grrrl it is promoting as a group, is pretty disgusting. Like Sophie said, it’s completely white, and it’s entirely cissexist, and pretty narcissistic.
It’s a total disgrace really, that something that DOES NOT NEED to alienate and oppress POC, Non-cis folks, etc, DOES. Like someone choosing to revive a movement that did this then, but does not need to do this now to still be empowering, actually goes and does it anyway, when they had the chance to create something GOOD out of it? urgh.
I mean, I AM a cis white girl, so I admit, I find Riot Grrrl empowering TO ME, cos I’m the target demographic, and always have been. But that is something that is really fucked. Because I don’t want to be part of a feminsim that is actually part of the problem.
Feminism has a problematic, dark even, history, and lots of people do not ID as feminist because of that. But they still fight for gender equality. And I am sure this is coming from a place of white, cis, privilege, but I DO still ID as a feminist, and I DO still cherry pick parts of riot grrl to like and use for myself, because, like feminism itself, I think it could and should be something great, and is a movement that is worth changing and developing and fighting for it to change with US, and not the other way around. Contemporary feminists need to fight against 2nd+ wave notions which are oppressive in order to achieve equality for NOW.
tl;dr: So make your flyers and zines and form political bands and grass roots whatever, DIY is AWESOME, and a great way to get involved in a cause. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MAKE YOUR FEMINISM AND SUBFEMINISMS INTERSECTIONAL AND INCLUSIVE OR KILL IT DEAD RIGHT NOW.
behind the criticism, with the minor addition that it’s only “narcissistic” bcs they’re focused inward to the extent that they’re not including sections of society - being focused inward isn’t inherently bad (just fleshing out what was said)

tw: abuse
Thoughts I have been having about abusive relationships:
the onus seems to be put on the victim/survivor of abuse to leave instead of on the abuser to stop being abusive, or end the relationship because they know they’re causing a problem.
That kind of needs to change.

TRIGGER WARNING: ABUSE, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
EVERYONE needs to know this. This is how nearly all abusive relationships play out, nearly all of the time. It’s very, very common and very important.
Bear in mind that “violent outbursts” can also mean mental/verbal abuse, shoving or holding someone down, throwing things at the person or threats.
Usually, this cycle worsens and worsens throughout the relationship. The violent episodes last longer and longer and the honeymoon phase gets shorter or may disappear completely, leaving the relationship bouncing back and forth between tension and explosions.
Please reblog if you think your readers could be helped by this?
I am reblogging this because if I had seen a chart like this in high school I could have recognized my abusive relationship for what it was. And this goes for almost every woman I have ever encountered that has been in an abusive relationship.
This is so true.
Reblogging not just for those who might realize that they’re being abused, but for those who might realize that they are abusive.

tw: death, suicide, etc.
Ok, I was with you until you said “go fucking die.”

I don’t care what a person’s done, I don’t think it’s right to tell someone to die.

Transgender Couchsurfing Network has reached its first ten followers!
I know it’s still such a small number but THANK YOU to everyone who has been reblogging and signal boosting this blog in the past few hours. Please, keep spreading the word — this blog can only help people in need if they know it exists!
This is important, friends. If you can spare a couch…
Gotta get on this!
Damn, I had a couch (and three extra beds…) for quite a while. Never found anyone in the area who needed space though. Now I’m moving into a dorm so that’s not helpful, but next semester I’ll be sure to check back.
We would so do this if we had our own place.

I kind of care about cultural appropriation a lot.
So I have to question *why* I am so interested in history that is not my own. Am I just thinking oooh, this is shiny and ~other~ and so ~different~ or is it just that I genuinely have an interest in these periods of time in these places, which could still be problematic, because why am I more interested in someone else’s history and culture than my own?
I am just…having a lot of feelings. And I want to talk about cultural appropriation in history, and such.
